Weekly Examen

Weekly Examen
Several weeks ago, we began a practice called The Examen.  It is a very old and very tried method of examining our hearts and noting where we have seen God in this week.

You may wish to download this picture, or just pray your own examen.  There is no set or fixed prayer for the examen, just a desire to be alone with God and reflect on your week.  The goal is not shame or fear or guilt.  The goal is honesty before God and yourself.  God is waiting for you to ask Him for help in the areas you are struggling.

Open the eyes of our hearts, Lord.  We want to see you.

  • Study a gospel.  Ask these questions:

What truth is revealed in the passage?
What does the passage reveal about my spiritual life?
What does the passage teach you about how to act or respond?

I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples,
and I will sing praises to you among the nations.
For your steadfast love is higher than the heavens,
and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
(Psalms 108:3-4 NRSV)
