Tell the Story

Tell the Story
How has God been present with you in your life?  Yesterday, we heard the seniors of our church share God’s stories in their lives.  Brent then challenged us to highlight and sign Bibles purchased for the seniors to remind them of this moment in their lives.  He wisely wanted to share our collective wisdom with those who are going out in the world under the umbrella of our prayers and the Word of God. We need reminders.  We need memorials. The Israelites carried stones from the River Jordan as they walked into the Promised Land.  Those stones became a memorial to God’s work, His saving power, and grace.

Have you told the stories of God’s presence, power, and grace in your life?  We all have more than one testimony; we have an ongoing relationship with a living God who loves us.  Does your spouse know your God stories?  Do your children and grandchildren?  Do you have memorials, pictures, trees, or rocks to remind you: Look what God has done for me?

Sharing our stories doesn’t have to be from a stage or scary in any way.  We don’t have to re-hash all the gory details of our most painful moments (though as the Spirit directs, we may).  Sharing our story can simply be answering the question: Where did I see God today?  When I reflect over the course of the day’s events, where was God present?  Perhaps in the smile of a stranger, perhaps in a timely phone call from a friend, perhaps in a new-blooming flower in the garden.  Notice where God has revealed Himself to you and share those stories.

Our children and grandchildren will need to know that we have made it thus far on the journey of life, not due to our financial acumen or our never-give-up philosophies.  The generations to come need to know the stories of our faithful and loving God who pursues and never forsakes us.

"Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for me." Psalm 66
