Go and Make Disciples
Matthew 28: 16-20 ESV
For the next two Sundays, Don will be preaching a series on discipleship and what that might look like at Grace Church as we actively pursue following Christ. Dallas Willard says, "No one accidentally falls into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ." Though our actions do not gain us God's love, mercy, or forgiveness, we can take actions that become habits and rhythms in our lives. We can practice looking for the places God is already at work in our world. We can practice setting our eyes on the Kingdom of God.
As you read the scripture for this week, consider:
Ask God to show you what He would have you to know as you mediate on these verses.
Matthew 28:16-20 ESV
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
As you read the scripture for this week, consider:
- What does it mean for the disciples to see Jesus resurrected? why do some doubt?
- What does the phrase all authority in heaven on earth mean?
- Are there ways in which we live our lives contradictory to that statement by Jesus?
- What does it mean to make a disciple?
- Is being a disciple different than being a Christian? How so?
- How can we effectively teach others to observe Christ's commandments?
- How does the last sentence strike you?
