Prudence
Prudence
An old-fashioned word, prudence, doesn't get much airtime these days (unless we happen to be watching an SNL clip of Dana Carvey impersonating GW Bush). But prudence has long been considered a virtue. It means to be able to look at situation and to know what needs to be done, or what is most important.
In the case of Mark 14, those at the home of Simon the Leper rebuked the woman for "wasting" the costly oil on Jesus, arguing instead that the money should be spent on the poor.
Yet, the woman seemed to know the prudence of extravagant love, both that given to her and that given by her. Ask God for the gift of prudence in your life.
